The final rosters around the National Hockey League were due to be finalized today by 5 PM EST. All teams had to be under the salary cap and carry a roster with no more than 23 players.

For the second straight season, the Buffalo Sabres will have an opening night roster that consists of 13 forwards, 8 defensemen, 2 goaltenders. The eighth defenseman on the roster is a bit of a surprise, but we’ll save that for another day.

The Sabres currently have 27 players who are still with the club with the addition of Remi Elie off the waiver wire this afternoon. They trimmed down to 23 players by placing Johan Larsson, Sean Malone, Matt Hunwick, and Scott Wilson on IR. Injured reserve rules in the NHL prohibit a player from playing in a game for at least 7 days. With Hunwick, Wilson, and Malone being out long-term, only Larsson is the player we’ll have to keep an eye on over the next week.

Here is your 2018-19 Sabres opening night roster:

Goalies: Carter Hutton, Linus Ullmark

Forwards: Patrik Berglund, Jack Eichel, Zemgus Girgensons, Johan Larsson, Sean Malone, Casey Mittelstadt, Kyle Okposo, Jason Pominville, Sam Reinhart, Evan Rodrigues, Conor Sheary, Jeff Skinner, Vladimir Sobotka, Tage Thompson, Scott Wilson

Defensemen: Nathan Beaulieu, Zach Bogosian, Rasmus Dahlin, Matt Hunwick, Jake McCabe, Casey Nelson, Rasmus Ristolainen, Marco Scandella, Matt Tennyson
