Regional Transit Service officials say masks will now be optional for customers and employees on its buses and in the downtown Transit Center. This follows Monday’s federal court ruling, overturning the CDC’s mask mandate for public transportation including airplanes, trains and buses.

The Biden Administration is not appealing the order.

Different transportation authorities around New York are responding differently to the court ruling.

At the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport, the TSA is no longer enforcing the mark mandate, although its website says it is following the TSA in extending the face mask requirement through May 3.

The NFTA in Buffalo has lifted its mask mandate for Metro Bus and Rail as well as at the Buffalo and Niagara Falls Airports.

Governor Hochul says masks are still being required on New York City’s MTA buses and trains.
