The man shot to death by Rochester police after he allegedly aimed a shotgun at them has been identified as 35-year-old Brandon Burns of Rochester.

Rochester Police Chief David Smith and Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter told a news conference that Burns has been known to law enforcement for some time.

Police said Burns was involved in shootings in Brighton and in Rochester before the incident on Park Avenue that led to his death.

He was arrested in 2018 for deliberately injuring an off-duty RPD officer in a hit and run incident in Penfield. It was an apparent road rage incident.
