Faced with a serious staffing shortage plus an historic surge in street violence, Rochester police say law enforcement partners from the New York State Police and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office will begin patrolling city streets.
The partner agencies will join the RPD in patrolling specific areas where firearm violence has been taking place. The RPD says nearly all of Rochester’s shooting incidents are happening on just 11 percent of city streets. They plan to focus violence suppression tactics on those areas to help reduce the gun violence.
