The City of Rochester is looking to move forward on two publicly-supported housing projects, one in the East End and one near Capelli Sport Stadium on the west side. Mayor Lovely Warren has sent legislation to City Council for action this month selling a parcel of land at Union and Charlotte Streets for the Charlotte Square III project, and for the Stadium Estates II project in the Josana Neighborhood. Both will be affordable rental housing developments.
The mayor is asking council to authorize sale of the East End parcel to Home Leasing LLC for $300,000. Charlotte Square III will be a multi-story L-shaped apartment building next to the existing Phase 1 and the under design Phase 2 on Union Street. It’s a 12-million-dollar project with 50 one-and-two bedroom units.
The Stadium Estates II is a different concept. The city is selling 30 vacant lots where blighted properties have been demolished to Charles Settlement House. They in turn will build a community center and 46 family rental housing units on that land.
Both projects are expected to begin construction this fall and be finished in 2019.
