Rochester Mayor Warren is proposing legislation to reduce the harm she says is done to neighborhoods by nuisance properties owned by absentee landlords.
City Councilwoman Jackie Ortiz says the legislation would require City property owners, especially those who are out-of-town companies, to identify a local contact for issues that arise at their properties. She says this is to address properties that draw frequent complaints but nobody knows who’s responsible for taking care of them.
If an owner lives outside the Rochester area, they will have to designate someone who resides within Monroe County as their point of contact. The legislation also requires owners to provide a public business phone number.
Council is due to vote on this next week.
