Rochester’s East Main Street is about to get a $3.5 million dollar makeover.

The Main Street Streetscape project is supported by a $2 million state grant. Mayor Lovely Warren says it will make downtown more pedestrian and bike friendly…calm down traffic…and make it a place where people will actually want to sit at an outdoor cafe. The Mayor says increasing numbers of downtown residential units and businesses demand a more attractive landscape and a better environment for foot traffic.

State Senators Joe Robach and Rich Funke got state funding for the project which is being designed now and starts construction next year.

The last major upgrade for Main Street gave it the current look 30 years ago.
