New York State Police have charged a Rochester woman with identity theft, criminal impersonation and forgery after she used another person’s license during a traffic stop and pretended to be that person when she went to court.
Troopers charged 37-year-old Shawanda Owens-Ulysses with pretending to be the other woman when she was stopped for speeding on 390 a year-and-a-half ago. Owens-Ulysses presented another woman’s license, and went to court in Geneseo where she signed a plea agreement, still pretending to be the other person.
But she failed to carry out the terms of her agreement, which caused that person’s license to be suspended. When she began looking into why, Owens-Ulysses’ scheme came to light.
The Rochester woman has been arraigned on the new charges, again in Geneseo, and ordered to be in court on February 22nd.
