A shortage of staff and teachers caused by COVID-19 has forced the Rochester City School District into switching to remote learning for the next several days.

Superintendent Dr. Lesli Myers-Small says the district will keep kids out of the classrooms on Thursday, Friday and Monday, hoping to resume normal classes on Tuesday. In the meantime students are to complete assignments online Thursday, and will have lessons over the internet Friday and Monday.

They should come back to the classrooms on Tuesday, January 11, assuming enough teachers and staff have recovered from COVID to cover the classes and bus runs. An announcement will be made around noon on Monday.

Teachers are still to report, which raised objections from the Teacher’s Union.

Myers-Small says this decision was not taken lightly, and they believe schools are safe places for children to be despite the pandemic.
