Governor Andrew Cuomo cited Rochester Regional Health on Monday among health care systems he called out for not using the majority of the COVID-19 vaccine made available to them.

During his Monday briefing, the governor said a letter will be coming to RRH and the other systems he called out from the State Health Department. It will order them to use their remaining stock by Friday, or possibly face a fine for exclusion from future vaccine distribution.

The governor said as much of the vaccine in this first round needs to get out to people as quickly as possible.

During a separate news conference, Dr. Robert Mayo of Rochester Regional Health said the system is close to having 65 percent of its staff vaccinated, which amounts to many thousands of vaccinations. He said thousands more will get their shots this week.
