Two Rochester police officers are recovering this week after they were hurt breaking up a large fight by young people on West Avenue Saturday night. But their injuries have been pulled into the discussions over whether Rochester should have a civilian police review board.
One officer was hit in the head with a rock and another suffered a hand injury breaking up the fights. Police Union Head Mike Mazzeo says that shows a rise in violence in Rochester…and also that discussions over police brutality are reducing respect for police.
Acting Police Chief Mark Simmons says he expects his officers to be treated with respect.
Simmons says the department can’t release body cam video of what happened on West Avenue because it’s a continuing investigation.
