UPDATE:

Rochester Police confirm a search warrant was executed Sunday evening at a house on North Street, near where Officer Jeremy Nash was shot on Saturday night.

The house at 997 North Street was searched by evidence technicians and K9 units. A rifle was confiscated, which police say was not related to the shooting. A number of folders of evidence were removed from the house as well.

(Original Story):  A Rochester Police Officer was grazed in the head by a bullet late Saturday night and is recovering at Rochester General Hospital.

Police have identified the injured officer as 36-year-old Jeremy Nash and say he was awake and alert at the hospital. His injuries are non-life threatening, but the bullet narrowly missed his face. He’s an 11-year veteran of the force and a new father with a three-week-old child.

Chief Michael Ciminelli said in a briefing this morning that he couldn’t discuss the circumstances of the shooting. But he did say Officer Nash remains hospitalized in stable condition. In response to a question he said police are investigating whether the officer was targeted.

The chief asks anyone with information about the shooting to call 911. He wouldn’t comment on whether body camera video exists of the incident.

Chief Ciminelli did say officers were responding to an unrelated call in an area of “persistent violence” when they were fired on. Officers did not return fire, and police are not aware of anyone else being hit.

Police say they have no suspects in custody so far. North Street was reopened to traffic late Sunday afternoon.

The shooting took place in the area of Hudson Avenue, Clifford Avenue and North Street. Police responded with a major presence and told area residents to stay indoors while they canvassed the area. Police were also reported to be stopping cars passing through the area and questioning the people inside.
