A Rochester Police lieutenant was killed Thursday evening when his bicycle was struck by a pickup truck on Woolhouse Road in the Town of Canandaigua.
The accident just after 8:00 p.m. killed Lt. Aaron Colletti, who was riding with his 17-year-old son when they were struck. Ontario County Sheriff Kevin Henderson says Colletti’s son suffered minor injuries. The accident report said the driver was trying to pass the two bicyclists on the road when the corner of his truck hit them. The older Colletti was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rochester Police Chief La’Ron Singletary said in a statement that Lt. Colletti had been with the RPD for more than two decades and is survived by his wife and four children.
Henderson said the driver stayed at the scene and alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the accident.
