Rochester police are investigating the city’s first homicide for 2024, the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old fast food restaurant employee as he was leaving work.

Police say the victim was shot inside the Burger King at 560 Lyell Avenue as he was leaving for the day. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and later died at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Police say they won’t speculate on a motive but do say it appears the victim was targeted. There was no robbery or customer trouble before the shooting took place.
