One of Rochester’s longest-serving news anchors, Warren Doremus of WHEC-TV, died Monday afternoon at the age of 91.
Doremus worked for Rochester’s News10 NBC for 45 years. Among other milestones, he covered the 1964 Rochester Riot and was the station’s news director in the 1970s and 80s. He was a World War II veteran who fought in France.
His son, Wyatt Doremus, posted on Facebook:
“It is with a heavy heart that I tell you of the passing of my dad, Warren. He had an awful fall the day after Fathers Day. While he fought to stay with us, a combination of factors proved too much. There will be no funeral but we will be organizing a memorial service most likely in September. My sister and Kathy and our families are sad beyond measure… Our hearts also go out to his sister and brothers.”
13WHAM anchor Don Alhart said Doremus’ death meant the loss of a Rochester broadcasting legend.
