Federal prosecutors say a 22-year-old Rochester man is going to prison for 18 months for trafficking fentanyl.

They say Derek Torres, AKA “Bebe,” was convicted of conspiring to distribute the drug between July and November of 2018, selling the drug to undercover officers.

Federal prosecutors also say 26-year-old Shermart Merriwether of Rochester has pleaded guilty to distributing fentanyl. The defendant sold the drugs from a house on Weaver Street in Rochester in 2018 and 2019. A woman to whom he sold drugs suffered an overdose at an Irondequoit gas station and her life was saved by paramedics with Narcan.

Merriwether will be sentenced in January.
