A jury in Rochester has found 29-year-old Alexander Laureano guilty of second degree murder, as well as manslaughter and attempted robbery in the death of Chernet Tiruneh.

Tiruneh was behind the counter at Chappa’s Groceries in Rochester on April 28, 2020 when Laureano tried to rob him at gunpoint. Tiruneh went for his legally registered firearm and Laureano shot and killed him.

Police were aided by help from the community in their investigation, and soon identified Laureano as the shooter. He’ll be sentenced on May 9th.
