24-year-old man who smashed the front door glass of the First Unitarian Church last night has died of injuries he suffered from broken glass.
Rochester Police Chief Michael Ciminelli say they believe this was a mental health issue. He says the man, whose name is not being released, crawled through the smashed window and received severe cuts from the broken glass. He then ran through the church leaving a trail of blood, and left shortly before police arrived.
Chief Ciminelli says the man was located on the church lawn by his father and a police officer. He resisted when police approached, but they subdued him and he was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital where he later died.
Police were originally in the area of the church because the man’s father had called 911 to report his son was suffering a mental health crisis.
