A Rochester man has been found guilty by a Monroe County jury in the ax murder that killed a city woman last year.

The jury found 22-year-old Joseph Rivera Jr guilty of second degree murder in the brutal slaying of Heather Majors. Police said Majors was hit well over 70 times with a hatchet on July 10, 2021 on Chili Avenue. She died two days later at the hospital.

Police developed evidence leading to Rivera, who was arrested in September after being released from the Monroe County Jail on a parole hold.

Rivera will be sentenced September 14th, and faces up to life in prison.
