A 24-year-old Rochester man has been arrested for the unusual crime of videoing a trial.
Malik Hymes allegedly used his phone to secretly record the murder trial of Jesmond Hart while sitting as a spectator in the courtroom earlier this month. The video was then posted to social media, where viewers were able to see the judge, the courtroom staff and to hear witness testimony. That’s a violation of New York’s Civil Rights Law although it’s considered a misdemeanor.
The incident remains under investigation by Rochester Police and by the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office.
