Rochester is launching a drive to push heroin sales and use off North Clinton Avenue, while also getting users into drug treatment.
Mayor Lovely Warren says it’s a three-step plan targeting the area of North Clinton between Upper Falls Boulevard and Avenue D. They’re saturating the area with police patrols. They’ll be looking to make arrests and to disrupt drug traffickers by randomly blocking the street and diverting traffic around the area…making it tough for them to do business.
Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren says heroin abuse and drug sales have become a plague on North Clinton Avenue, and the city is launching a three-pronged attack against it.
The city is also moving to clean up needles and other drug-related trash along the neighborhood streets and block off vacant lots used by dealers. And if the law allows, Mayor Warren they’ll try picking up addicts off the streets and delivering them to drop off treatment centers.
The mayor says heroin has become a plague along North Clinton and the city has to detoxify it. She says we can’t eliminate heroin use overnight, but the city can’t let the crisis go unanswered, either.
