A Rochester man has been charged with criminally negligent homicide in connection with the hunting accident last month that killed a woman in Caledonia.
The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office says 50-year-old John Lander shot 45-year-old Sharon Lander of Rochester on November 27th. They were in a party of hunters crossing a field off River Road in Caledonia, as they had been doing for years, when John Lander’s shotgun mistakenly discharged and hit the victim in the torso.
Lander has been arraigned and the judge set bail at $2,000.
Sheriff Tom Dougherty says he doesn’t call this an accident because it could have been prevented by following safety rules.
