Rochester’s homicide rate dropped significantly in 2017: from 42 in 2016 down to 29 last year. That’s a drop of more than 30 percent.

Two of those 2017 deaths resulted from injuries that took place in 2016.

A database compiled by the “Democrat and Chronicle” shows the lowest number of homicides since 2009, and only the third time since 1987 that there were fewer than 30 murders in a given year.
