Rochester Regional Healthcare Advocates is following up on its call for Congress not to repeal the Affordable Care Act until it has a replacement ready to go. They and the state hospital association said this week that could bankrupt New York’s hospitals.
The new Republican majority Congress began action to roll back President Obama’s signature program yesterday.
Travis Heider of the local healthcare advocacy group says New York’s hospitals run on narrow operating margins, about one-fifth of the national average. He says simply ending the ACA will cost Rochester-area hospitals $1.4 billion over the next decade, which could affect patient care and the jobs of 53,000 people who work in those hospitals.
