Gasoline prices have soared over the past week; up seven cents a gallon statewide, nine cents over the past week across the Rochester region, four cents in Buffalo and up seven cents in Syracuse.

According to the AAA, the price surge is national as well. The Energy Information Administration  says gasoline demand hit a new high of nearly 9.9 billion barrels per day. That’s likely because of more drivers hitting the road for spring break, a record high number for the month of April. Supplies are down and demand is up, which equals price spikes at the pumps.

Meanwhile, crude oil supplies are down as the industry worked through a glut, sending prices for the basic raw material up as well.
