Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren has announced the retirement of Rochester Fire Chief Will Jackson after 25 years of service. His interim replacement, Deputy Chief Felipe Hernandez, Jr., is the first Latino to head the department.
Mayor Warren said Chief Jackson has led the department through critical times, but promised his family he would retire after 25 years and the time is now.
Hernandez has served 20 years with the departmet, and says his focus moving forward will be on the health of the department during the pandemic.
