A Rochester couple was arraigned this afternoon on charges including murder and evidence tampering in connection with the burning body found in Livingston County earlier this week.
New York State Police arrested 35-year-old Aykut Ozkaynak and 42-year-old Mary Neverett of Rochester Wednesday night. Both pleaded “not guilty” in Caledonia Court. Both have Facebook profiles saying they’re in a relationship.
State Police Captain Richard Allen says they’ll hold a news conference tomorrow in Caledonia and will release the victim’s identity at that time, although the complaint filed against the couple in court identifies her as a woman named Patrice Miller. Allen says police in Livingston County and in the Town of Gates worked non-stop from Monday night to Wednesday night to make the arrest possible.
Police say they have no reason to believe the body found Monday night in Caledonia has any connection to the burned body found Wednesday morning by a jogger in a city park. Rochester Police continue their investigation into that body found off LaGrange Avenue.
The Caledonia body was spotted shortly before 11 Monday night by a couple taking a shortcut down a seasonal-use dirt road on their way home. The body was still in flames when police and firefighters got there. It was burned beyond recognition.
