FullSizeRenderThe Rochester City School District says it will be fixing or disconnecting some drinking water fixtures in its school buildings after testing showed they were putting out too much lead.

The district has sent a letter to parents saying about 11 percent of the water fountains and faucets showed lead levels above the EPA threshold of 20 parts per billion for schools and child care centers. The district says it will fix or shut off all of them by the time school starts on September 7th. Test results that came in yesterday cover four schools where students are attending summer programs. The district is supplying those schools with bottled water for the time being.

The district now has results on 22 of its school buildings and says 98 fixtures out of more than 880 tested above the warning threshold for lead.

Testing is still going on.
