Economic development groups in Buffalo and Rochester have shaken hands on a deal to work together in an effort to get Amazon’s new headquarters somewhere in Western New York.

Greater Rochester Enterprise and Invest Buffalo Niagara are both nonprofit economic development organizations. They’re now collaborating in pursuit of Amazon’s second North American headquarters, saying it would boost the economy of the entire region. Their effort is in line with what’s been happening in other nearby states including Ohio, where regional coalitions are forming to better lobby the Amazon search team.

GRE Interim President Matt Hurlbutt says the two metro regions together have more than 2.2 million people, a huge skilled workforce and a very liveable community.

Wherever Amazon puts its new headquarters, it plans to hire up to 50,000 employees over 10 to 15 years.
