The joint Buffalo-Rochester bid for Amazon’s new North American headquarters was signed and sent off to Amazon’s Seattle offices this morning. It’s among four bids from New York State alone, and goes into a mix of 50 or more competing proposals from around the continent, each touting a particular region’s unique characteristics.

Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce CEO Bob Duffy Tweets that the team work and support for the joint bid was amazing. Officials think they have a fighting chance for Rochester-Buffalo to rise to the top of the pile as Amazon considers its future. The prize is a business that promises to bring 50,000 jobs over the next ten years.

Empire State Development says the other New York bids are from Syracuse, the Central Mohawk region, the Albany region and New York-Westchester-Long Island. ESD has supplied Amazon a separate package of tax and other incentives it will provide if the company locates anywhere in New York State.
