Legislation to rename the Greater Rochester International Airport after Abolitionist Frederick Douglass was introduced this afternoon by a bipartisan group of Monroe County Legislators.
Democratic Leader Vince Felder says there are only four other airports in America named after African Americans.
Republican co-sponsor Karla Boyce says Douglass was one of the most influential people ever to come out of Monroe County, and she’s proud to sponsor the bill. It’s also backed by County Executive Adam Bello.
