The union representing Monroe County’s Police Bureau deputies has ratified a new five-year contract agreement with the county and with Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn.

The Patrol Benevolent Association says it allows Road Patrol deputies to stay competetive with other law enforcement agencies while also being responsible to taxpayers. PBA President John Auberger says it also ensures that Monroe County residents will be able to recruit and retain the most qualified law enforcement professionals.

Lack of a contract for the Road Patrol Deputies became an issue in Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn’s re-election campaign when Democratic challenger Todd Baxter said O’Flynn’s leadership had failed to deliver a contract so far and veteran deputies were leaving the department.
