A Rochester man accused of stabbing a city police officer in the chest has pleaded “not guilty” to charges of attempted murder and assault.

Leon Roach was arraigned on charges of attacking his roommates at a house on Louise Street last month, and trying to stab Officer Amber Grosch in the chest when she went in to investigate. Her bulletproof vest turned the knife, but prosecutor Christine Callanan says a couple of inches either way and the results could have been fatal.

Two other people were injured in Roach’s alleged rampage, one stabbed and another hurt jumping out of a second story window to get away.

Roach is being held without bail. He asked the judge today for a new lawyer.
