A woman who pleaded guilty to rioting charges after helping set two cars on fire in downtown Rochester will spend a year and a day in federal prison.

Twenty-year-old Mackenzie Drechsler will also put in two years of supervised release after her prison time is over. She will also pay more than $8,600 in restitution.

Drechsler took part in the rioting that followed demonstrations against the death of George Floyd in downtown Rochester on May 30, 2020. After the peaceful demonstrators left, violent members of the crowd took over and committed acts of vandalism and looting of stores.

Cars belonging to the city Crisis Intervention Team and the State Attorney General’s Office were burned.

Another protester who admitted his guilt, Shakell Sanks, will be sentenced on August 23.
