Laura Rideout and her sons Colin and Alex have been sentenced to the maximum for their roles in the murder of Craig Rideout and their attempt to hide the crime.

Craig Rideout’s sister Robbyn Drew spoke to the courtroom ahead of sentencing, asking for the maximum. She says Laura Rideout acted in a callous manner in murdering her brother and deprived her mother of much of her family.

There were lengthy pre-sentencing statements by the three defense attorneys, with Laura Rideout’s lawyer summing up by saying “I can only plea for mercy for her.”

But there was no mercy for Laura Rideout from Judge Thomas Moran, who called this one of the ugliest cases he’s ever seen.

Laura and Colin Rideout will each serve 25-years-to-life after being found guilty of murder. Laura Rideout will also serve 15 years for burglary for breaking into her estranged husband’s Penfield town home, and Colin Rideout will serve up to eight more years for evidence tampering.

Alex Rideout will serve two-and-two-thirds to eight years in prison for evidence tampering, for his part in trying to erase blood spatter and other evidence of the crime. All three defendants were taken from the courtroom to begin their sentences.
