Rochester is 2nd all-time in US Open Cup victories with 38.
The Rhinos are no strangers to success in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. In fact, Rochester to this day is the only lower-division team to ever hoist the Cup in the 103-year history of the USOC. In 1999, the Rhinos famously defeated 4 MLS teams, including the Colorado Rapids 2-0 in the championship match.
Rochester has faced MLS opposition in every year of their existence with the exception of 2001, losing 1-0 to the Bob Lilley-led Hershey Wildcats. The Rhinos would have the last laugh, defeating the Wildcats 2-0 in the A-League Final to claim their 3rd league title.
Rochester has an 8-15-5 record (2-3 in shootouts) against MLS opposition and a 38-20-6 record all-time in the competition (3-3 in shootouts). Their 38 USOC victories are one shy of the Chicago Fire’s record for most wins all-time in the modern era.
The last MLS victory came in 2014 when the Rhinos defeated DC United 1-0 in the Fourth Round.
