The game will mark the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Rhinos come back home Saturday for the first time in two weeks to take on the Ottawa Fury in their first-ever USL meeting. Kickoff is set for 6:05 pm.
Ottawa competed in the NASL for the first three years of their existence before making the switch over to the USL for the 2017 season. They made the NASL Championship final in 2015, sandwiched in-between a couple of seasons where they failed to qualify for the playoffs.
The Rhinos come in as one of just four USL teams remaining with one loss or less (4-1-5), while the Fury enter this match with a 4-3-4 mark. Each team is on an unbeaten run, with the Rhinos at 7 and the Fury at 4.
The two teams squared off in a March preseason contest in Ottawa, where the Rhinos won 3-0. Stefan Defregger provided a pair of goals as the Rhinos scored all three after the 76th minute, with Jalen Brown providing the other tally.
Both teams have gotten a taste of MLS action this season, with the Fury participating in the Canadian Championship and facing Toronto FC in the semifinals. They defeated them 2-1 at home before losing the away leg 4-0. Rochester just returned from a 3-0 loss in the Fourth Round of the US Open Cup to the New England Revolution Wednesday evening.
Lance Rozeboom, Steevan Dos Santos and Onua Obasi return to Rochester to face their former club for the first time. Each player has contributed one goal to Ottawa’s cause this year.
Both teams are currently placed inside the USL’s Power Rankings, with the Rhinos and Fury placed 7th and 10th, respectively.
