The Rochester Rhinos soccer team says they will become a USL division III team after sitting this season out, and they’ll be leaving Marina Auto Stadium near downtown Rochester in favor of a new home.

The Rhinos say they’ll be out of the city’s soccer stadium by the end of the year. Owners Dave and Wendy Dworkin say they’ve begun to pursue a potential new stadium development in the region, outside of the city.

The team sat this season out because of financial problems, but remains part of the United Soccer League. The Rochester Lancers have played at the field in their place this summer.

The Dworkins say after consulting with the league, it makes sense to have the Rhinos step down from Division II to Division III. They say they’re disappointed, but remain committed to pro soccer in Rochester.
