Power-TransformerMost Rochester Gas and Electric and New York State Electric and Gas customers can expect to see their bills go up by a little more than two dollars a month…under rate plans approved today (Wed.) by the New York State Public Service Commission.

The PSC gave both utilities approval to raise monthly delivery charges for the “typical” customer by $2.20 a month starting in July. The rates will go up by a $1.76 a year from now, and another $1.79 two years from now.  That’s a total increase of $5.75 a month over three years. The utilities wanted an increase of $8.79 a month in year one.

At least part of the increase is to be invested in new technology and a modernized electric grid that will make service more reliable.
