Both Rochester Gas and Electric and New York State Electric and Gas filed paperwork with the State Public Service Commission last week, asking for rate hikes that could raise an electric bill by $10 to $18 a month.

Both say they need increased revenues to maintain aging electric infrastructure, install stronger utility poles, trim more trees and make the transition to clean energy.

The request will have to go through PSC approval.
