The Bishop Emeritus of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester, Matthew Clark, has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Bishop Clark led the diocese from 1979 until his retirement in 2012. In a statement, the diocese confirmed the early stages of the disease, and says it was deeply saddened to learn of the diagnosis. The diocese says Bishop Clark hopes to continue his ministry, and it called on the faithful to pray for him and all those who suffer with and who work to treat Alzheimer’s.
