The Rochester Fire Department says a car that caught fire next to an Alexander Street rooming house sent flames into the building, requiring firefighters to assist some residents in escaping.

The fire broke out overnight at 432 Alexander Street, in a building housing 20 single room apartments. Fire blocked many of the second floor fire escapes and the side exit. The fire was quickly contained and nobody was reported hurt.
