Pistol-Gates PDNew York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says his office has analyzed tens of thousands of guns seized by law enforcement during crime investigations. His report finds that 74 percent of so-called “crime guns” came from out-of-state, circumventing  New York’s gun control laws.

Schneiderman says 86 percent of recovered handguns came from out-of-state, mostly from southern states like Florida, Georgia and South Carolina where handgun purchases are loosely regulated.

The report looked at the history of nearly 53,000 crime guns recovered between 2010 and 2015. Attorney General Schneiderman federal law needs to outlaw moving handguns in particular across state lines and selling them to residents of states like New York where handgun ownership is licensed and regulated.
