The Buffalo Bills had an impressive secondary in 2017 during Sean McDermott first season with the team.
Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer roamed the safety positions and still do. Every since that year, the Bills have struggled to find a replacement for EJ Gaines and the team’s No. 2 cornerback across from Tre’Davious White.
Well, the band is back together for the 2019 season, it appears.
According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, Gaines has signed a one-year deal with the Bills on Monday.
Gaines’ contract is reportedly worth $3.6 million.
The 27-year-old re-joins the Bills having spent the 2018 season with the Cleveland Browns. However, Gaines never caught his footing there.
Gaines, who’s struggled with injuries in his four-year career, only suited up in six games last season. The latest string includes problems with concussions. In 2017 with the Bills, Gaines had an interception, 59 tackles and nine passes defended in 11 starts. His healthiest season was 2014, when he made 15 starts as a rookie with the Rams.
Gaines originally joined the Bills via trade when the team sent wide receiver Sammy Watkins just before the start of the 2017 season.
Currently at the No. 2 cornerback spot the Bills have Levi Wallace and Kevin Johnson, who also recently signed with the team this offseason.
