Just over a week after it was all put back together again, the historic bear fountain in Geneseo was hit by a car trying to make a left turn this morning.
That’s despite yellow lines painted around the fountain and new lighting intended to help people notice it.
The editor of the Genesee “Sun” heard the crash from his office next to the fountain and ran out and talked with the driver. He says the driver told him he just didn’t see the fountain.
Police ticketed the driver for making an improper turn. It’s supposed to be treated as a roundabout.
The fountain was hit by a tractor-trailer just over a year ago, smashing the granite base and knocking the fountain apart. A new base had to be made and it was finally restored just last week.
