Western New York Congressman Chris Collins says that he plans on going armed when he’s in public whenever possible after today’s shooting of Congressman Steve Scalise.
Collins represents the area from Eastern Buffalo to the west side of Monroe County. He’s a Republican and was the first member of Congress to actively back Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.
Collins told Buffalo’s WKBW that there’s a vulnerability issue being a member of Congress. He says he’s got a carry permit and now plans to carry his weapon “from this day forward.”
Collins says he would occasionally have his gun in the glove box of his car or in a drawer, but hasn’t usually carried it. He wasn’t at the morning baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia where Majority Whip Steve Scalise and three other people were shot. The gunman was shot and killed by Capitol Police Officers on Scalise’s security detail.
