A coalition of religious groups in Rochester has filed suit against a New York law they say forces them to hire employees to disagree with their faith beliefs.
SB660, signed last week by Governor Cuomo, is meant to ban employers from discriminating against their employees based on their reproductive health decisions. But the plaintiffs, including CompassCare Pregnancy Center and the First Bible Baptist Church of Rochester, say it forces them to employ people who don’t share their beliefs about abortion, contraception and sexual morality.
The suit was filed last week on their behalf by the conservative Alliance Defending Freedom, which says faith-based groups shouldn’t be forced by government to ignore their statements of faith.
