As spring approaches again, Lake Ontario is nearly a foot above its average level for this time of year
The Lake Ontario-St. Lawrence River Board says widespread rain, mild temperatures and snowmelt were only partially offset by near record-high amounts of water being let out of the lake this winter. Lake Ontario rose a little more than an inch last week and is just short of 11-and-a-half inches above average and 245.73 inches. The board continues with the lake outflow at just below maximum.
It’s also two inches above the lake level at this time last year, when record high rains caused widespread flooding along the lake shore and the St. Lawrence River. At that time, the lake hit a record high at 247 feet.
