The waters may be rising, but the gasoline prices are coming down. For the second week in a row, a fill-up is cheaper in New York State and in the Rochester area this week than last.

The AAA says the New York State average price for a gallon of unleaded regular is now $252, down a penny from last Monday. Rochester and Buffalo’s averages are both down by two cents a gallon with Rochester averaging $2.44 and Buffalo $2.46. Syracuse dropped by four cents to $2.41.

The Auto Club says the national average dropped every day last week. They say this is because U.S. fracking and Canadian oil shale producers stepped up their output and sales as soon as OPEC tried to cut production and drive up prices. The price of crude oil dropped to a five-month low last week and there’s currently a worldwide glut of oil supplies. U.S. refineries are cranking out gas at record rates and imports are increasing, too. Prices could keep falling if all this continues for awhile.
