Tyler Duffey hurls a no-hitter for 6.1 innings in the 6-2 win over SWB.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Red Wings kept their International League playoff hopes alive with a 6-2 victory over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Monday night before 9,628 fans at Frontier Field.

Starting pitcher Tyler Duffey no-hit the RailRiders for 6.1 innings before Rob Refsnyder broke it up with a single to center.

When asked if he were aware of the no-hitter, Duffey said, “Guys who say they don’t know are lying. ..It’s fun to ride it, but once it’s over, it’s over. Unfortunately, I gave up a couple of runs…Obviously you want to do it, but obviously it’s a rare occurrence.”

The visitors went on to score their 2 runs on a double by Jake Cave.

Duffey hurled 7 innings giving up 2 hits, 2 walks, and striking out 5 batters.

I’m here to get back on track,” Duffey said of his option to the Wings. “I was beating myself up. I couldn’t find my rhythm. I was pretty good tonight.”

The Red Wings scored 2 runs in the second on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Byron Buxton that plated Daniel Palka, who had reached on a leadoff single. James Beresford then recorded the second of his four singles on the night as John Ryan Murphy crossed the plate.

Rochester broke the game open with 4 runs in the third with the key hit being a bases-loaded, 2-run single by Beresford. Mitch Garver had a sacrifice fly in the rally and Heiker Meneses added a RBI single.

With the power hitters having an off night, Red Wings manager Mike Quade was pleased to see others take up the slack.

We had Beresford, Murphy, and Meneses on a night when our big guys didn’t have a good night,” Quade said. “Jimmy has been through the wars before and has done a great job us this year. Meneses’ first two at bats were great, and Murphy has swung the bat extremely well the last two or three weeks.”

Relief pitcher Buddy Boshers hurled the eighth inning, retiring all 3 batters he faced in his first rehab appearance from the Minnesota Twins.

*NOTES Irondequoit native Cito Culver played first base for the RailRiders and went 0-3 at the plate…In roster moves, LHP Buddy Boshers began his MLB rehab assignment, and C Carlos Paulino was transferred from Double-A Chattanooga. Boshers pitched the eighth inning and retired the side in order…The final home stand of the season continues on Tuesday against the Syracuse Chiefs at 7:05 pm.
